What is Link aggregation? and Is it Faster or Better than 10Gbe for you? https://nascompares.com/tag/10gbe-nas/ Link aggregation will combine 2 or more Ethernet ports into a one logical link between two network devices like computers or NAS. This will mean doubled or quadrupled bandwidth to use for super fast data transfer. What we care about is which switch is smart enough to be able to manage link aggregation and also which one is the cheapest. Link aggregation or NIC Teaming is also called by other names like: Port aggregation Port trunking NIC teaming Ethernet teaming Ethernet bonding Link teaming Link bonding Link bundling Port channeling Network interface controller (NIC) bonding What are the benefits of link aggregation? Increased bandwidth Better use of hardware – balancing the load Increased reliability and availability Cost effective – don’t need to upgrade network By enabling link aggregation, there will be increased speed performance between you NAS and a router. To increase performance beyond the router, you need to make sure your receiving device can be upgraded. It is a TV at the other end, make sure it is connected using LAN cable instead of WiFi. If it is a computer on the other end, you may consider upgrading network card to a dual gigabit port option or change it to 10GbE standard. This will make big difference when streaming heavy video files. You will also need to check is your router coming with a LAG function if not, you can connect a smart switch to it which doesn’t cost much and will do the task. Also, make sure your cables are not old CAT5. You need to be shielded CAT6a cables for best performance.
