Rock manager Elliot Roberts on why a song is so valuable HD
Elliot Roberts explains how truly valuable music publishing is (during a 2018 interview with musician & writer Warren Zanes). The songs an artist creates make money while they sleep or long after they’re gone, a constant revenue stream. No wonder publishing houses are paying hundreds of millions for the catalogs of iconic artists. The songs, chopped into bits & bytes, will become as pervasive as the air we breath, the roads we drive, the trails we meander through en route to a beautiful vista. Mixed metaphors aside, music is art that’s unrivaled in how it makes people feel, a time machine for what once was & hopefully a blueprint to get back there. A song holds power, the power to dream. Elliot, who suddenly passed away in 2019, worked with a who’s who of rock & roll stars - Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, CSNY, Tom Petty, The Cars. Most notably, Elliot managed Neil Young for 50+ years.
