Since 1906, we have measured vestibular function with calorics, addressing only the lateral semicircular canal. In 1988, Halmagyi and Curthoys invented the head impulse test. More recently, Otometrics/ICS developed the vHIT goggles, making ti possible to measure vestibular function in all semicircular canals and at high frequencies. However, in order to perform, analyse and apply the head impulse test as a tool in clinical practice, it is necessary to understand the physics and background of the vHIT. Join Dr. Renato Cal as he explains in basic terms the head impulse test.
