Killer Holds off Police for 17 Hours - Rev. Bill "talks him into surrendering" HD

01.02.2017
On the morning of November 29th 2012 I was sitting on my sofa drinking some tea and just starting my day off. It had been one of those nights for me when I kind of black out and feel like I am not there. A death like sleep that I sometimes have. No dreaming and no memories or thoughts. About 6 in the morning my cell phone began to ring with a number I did not recognize. I answered it and an unknown woman was on the other end of the line. She did not really identify herself but she asked for Rev. Bill McDonald. I identified myself and that is when she then went into a long story about some guy named Joseph Corey who had told her to call me. She was told to thank me on his behalf for all the work I did last night in helping him to decide to give himself up and stop shooting. At this point in the conversation I had no clue as to what she was talking about. I asked how she had gotten my number and she stated that he gave her my business card with the phone number on it and instructed her to call and thank me. I told her I was home in bed all night long sleeping. However, she insisted that Joseph personally mentioned that it was me who had talked him into peacefully giving himself up to the police. I thought the conversation was some kind of wrong number. I did not write her name or number down to get back to her. What she was saying made no sense at the time. I eventually hung up the phone after saying I would send him a prayer, which satisfied her. When I turned on the local news on TV I was greeted with this huge news story of how a man named Joseph Francis Corey had gunned down an animal control officer at his home in the town of Galt (About 10 minutes down the road from my home in Elk Grove). Apparently this 68-year-old Vietnam veteran, whose home was being foreclosed, and his dogs were going to be picked up by the county had blasted the officer who came to his front door. According to the news story he held off the Galt Police, The Sacramento County Sheriffs Office, The California Highway Patrol and two SWAT Teams in a 17-hour standoff. He finally surrendered himself peacefully and turned over his weapon without anyone else being shot. He was arrested and in custody by 5 a.m. that morning. I sat there listening to all the details of the standoff and this angry and frightened veteran lashing out at the world. I realized that maybe this was one of the veterans that I have tried to help with his PTSD long ago and he apparently kept my business card. How and why he thought I was with him all night as he told others is a mystery. He did officially give me credit for talking him into surrendering himself that morning. Again, it was an odd phone call. But I felt connected with him in spirit and followed his trial and have been praying for him ever sense. He reached out to me in his craziness for help so how can I spiritually abandon him now. He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. Up until this event in his life he had not b
