Let’s get started with these tips and exercises on how to warm up after 50. Tip #1: Try wearing a hoodie or long sleeve to help your body get warm. This is strictly from a temperature standpoint. It is important to warm up because that will help you prevent injury in your workouts or daily activity. Warming up will also help you get more out of your workouts. Exercise #1: JUMPING JACKS. This is a light exercise that helps you warm up your whole body without putting too much strain on your muscles. This is a great cardio exercise to get your blood flowing to warm up after 50. Exercise #2: MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS. If you have bad knees, that is okay. This exercise does not put a lot of pressure on your knees, and it serves as a great cardio exercise to warm up your body. You can do this exercise slowly, especially if you are a beginner. If you need it to be a little more difficult, crank up the speed in this exercise. Exercise #3: PUSH-UPS. For some of you, it can be very difficult to do push ups. That is okay because we want this to be more of a cardio exercise. We want to warm up your muscles, not fatigue them too much. You can do them on your knees and do 10-15 pushups, rest for a little bit then do 10-15 more to warm up your muscles. Exercise #4: SQUATS. If you do them quickly, you can turn it into a cardio exercise to warm up. This is really working your lower body and your core to help warm up your body. Exercise #5: BENT OVER ROW. It is important to make sure that you are warming up your back and shoulders as well. It may not seem like you have to, but it is important to warm up all your muscles before starting your workouts. Exercise #6: CLEAN AND JERK. You can use light dumbbells, pick the weight up off the ground and push them up above your head. This is activating the muscle in your lower and upper body. Exercise #7: LAWN MOWER. You are pulling the dumbbell off the ground and above your head. You can do one arm at home, and do about 10 on each side. Exercise #8: AIR PUNCHES. This looks really easy, but it is some great cardio to warm up your body. Do 20-30 punches on each side, and you are really going to get your heart rate up. Exercise #9: STANDING KNEE TO ELBOW. You can do these one side at home, and do 10 on each side. Really try to touch your elbow to your knee, meet in the middle. Bring your knee up and your elbow down at the same time.
