Islamic Relief USA - The Power of Youth at IRUSA HD
Looking at the world around us, sometimes it feels like the problems are so big that there’s nothing you can do to change them. Tell that to the mother in Syria who has a bag of rice to cook for her children because you invited a friend to a fundraising dinner. Tell that to the father in Pakistan who had a roof over his family’s head after the recent earthquake because you came to our office and mailed out letters. Tell that to the elderly man in Flint, Michigan, who had a week’s worth of safe, clean bottled water in his kitchen because you brought it to his door. Tell that to the man in Texas, where a young volunteer cleaning up rubble found his child’s birth certificate. Everything changes when you realize that each statistic is a person, and when you reach one person, that’s a human life changed. The truth is that small actions make a very big difference. And it’s always been youth like you who are best at making that happen. Youth have always been the ones changing history, bringing about independence, civil rights, gender equality. There’s no doubt that you can touch people’s lives. Back in 1993, Islamic Relief USA was started by youth — young people, fresh out of college, working with even younger people, because they were the ones who cared. And just look what it grew into, masha’Allah — a group helping 10 million people a year at last count, in more than 40 countries around the world. Including right here at home in the United States. At Islamic Relief USA, we invite you to work with us. Come lend a hand, like volunteers did in Flint when they delivered more than 200,000 bottles of water, one case at a time. Go with us into your communities on Martin Luther King Day, or Day of Dignity. Get trained by our Disaster Response Team and the Red Cross, so you can deliver emergency aid if a disaster strikes your community. Bring your strength, your ideas, your creativity. Help out at one of our events, or plan your own! Walk for Water, Skate for Syria, Bike to raise money to deliver food to the poor. You’ll be bringing relief to someone who really needs it, and at the same time, you’ll be changing perceptions of Muslims in the United States. With your creativity and your good intentions, the possibilities are endless. So get involved today at irusa.org/mist, and begin making a difference through Islamic Relief. Together, we can work for a better world.
