4 pm St. Lawrence County continues its second day of operating under an emergency declaration. The road conditions remain treacherous with many side roads being impassable due to fallen trees or downed utility lines, county officials said. Light rain and sleet are expected to last through the day with continued minor accumulation of ice. The ban on driving, except for essential travel, remains in effect. "We encourage everyone to use caution when engaging in outdoor activities to avoid undo exertion when clearing drives and sidewalks as the sleet accumulation is very heavy," according to a release from county officials. National Grid and local, county and highway crews are fully engaged in restoring power and getting roads to working condition as soon as possible. "The continued patience of the public is greatly appreciated as crews are working as swiftly and safely as they can," county officials said.
