Around the World in a Song (rr vs. D by AU)
Dances from around the world to the song rr vs. D. by the band Au. Check out this cool band http://www.au-au-au.com/ This is my personal video, inspired by the wonderful music. I heard this song first on NPRs All Songs Considered. Bob Boilen introduced it by saying: What I love about this music is that you never know where it takes you next. This stuck in my head and I always pictured some kind of high speed journey full of fun when I heard it. For this clip I took a journey through YouTube which took me to pretty amazing places. The clips used here are: First a traditional Bavarian dance. When I saw that it was filmed at the centennial of the Trachtenverein (traditional costume club) of the city of Au in Germany, I knew it had to be in the clip. If you watch closely you can read it in the banner over the stage. The female dancer twirls like a mechanical doll which was perfect for the opening and the Lederhosn slapping foreshadows the clapping of the second segment. The one here is posted on Google Videos. I love the fun and high spirts of the event. Cueca at Colegio Dario Dalas, Chillán, Chile posted by ??? Next are two snippets of a song and dance called Poi E by the Patea Maori Club. This was actually the first clip I knew I wanted to use in this piece. I travelled in New Zealand in 1984 and this song was everywhere. But it took 24 years for me to find it again on the Internet! Next is a short snippet of a Mariachi Band. When I was in Mexico in 1988 I took back a cassette of Mariachi music which no one had ever heard of back in Germany. I played it endlessly. Sadly I haven´t been able to convert it to digital yet. mariachi posted by brettsmac Then some Inuit ladies doing a traditional dance (or maybe it is an aerobic class?) Kicaput Dancers and Singers #5 posted by MenefreghistaX27 Then the centre piece of the film which I like a lot because it perfectly matches the music: Vogue battling, Philly style. I stumbled across this while I was looking for an Inuit dance called Duck Dance. I clicked on a clip called You better duck walk your ass off - and never looked back. I was absolutely stunned at the wild, wonderful, crazy stuff I saw. Made me feel really old, too! The video is called sweet iranian school girl dancing and sweet it is. Posted by Sellim76 Finally I was looking for some clapping and searched for flamenco. I found this: Mongolian Dancer dancing a Spanish Dance. Not much clapping here but just perfect for my round the world in song video. Posted by
