E-Twow S2 handlebar modification to eliminate play HD
This video shows a home-made solution to the problem of wobbly handlebars on the E-Twow S2 electric kick-scooter, also known as the LTrott. It provides a firm bar that is preloaded against the central console by a threaded mounting while still being collapsible for storage, albeit not as rapidly as the original solution. The first step is to thread the central portion of the the steerer-tube using a M24 x 1.5 mm tap. No tap-drilling is necessary as the inner diameter of the tube happens to be just right for this size of tap. The handlebar portion can then be turned from a section of aluminium tubing. It will require a 18 mm internal diameter and a male M24x1.5 thread on the end. Then a 20 mm cylindrical section needs to be removed using a mill to allow the bar to be pulled towards the steering column by the spring. This is a minor detail but makes all the difference! The spring can be re-used from the original. The near end attaches to the folding plastic rod via the original pin. The far end of the spring is attached to a plug in the end of the bar which is also turned. I used POM plastic, but would recommend doing it in aluminium. The plug is journalled in a 608 ball bearing. (19 mm OD,7mm wide, 8mm ID). The OD of the central portion of the bar is 22 mm which is the same as the original bar, but due to the bearing at the end of my implementation the original grips could not be re-fitted, so it was finished instead with bicycle handlebar tape. The small bell is from Cateye.
