DigInfo - http://www.diginfo.tv Horiba Itech exhibited its "Dora Neko 3" Drive Recorder at the 2008 Scientific Instruments Show in Tokyo. "Dora Neko 3", the third recorder to be launched in the Dora Neko series, is a recorder that continuously photographs conditions ahead of the vehicle using a camera that is mounted to the front window. When the device detects an impact above a certain level of acceleration such during a collision, it records video for up to 25 seconds before and after the collision, and that video data can then be used to analyze the accident. The drive recorder is being used primarily by corporations. The Dora Neko 3 can photograph 30 frames per second and saves information such as time data, GPS positioning data, turn signal information, brake data, and the speed of the vehicle before and after a collision. The stored data accurately reflects the driving conditions, so if an accident does occur, objective physical evidence is stored and that evidence can be used to ensure that the accident is handled fairly. The manufacturer also manages a service center where data can be bundled and used in driver education and where accident data can be analyzed.
