Sadly, while King was attending high school in Brooklyn, New York, his father died of a heart attack at age 44. The death left young King absolutely devastated. Still, he had to remain strong in order to support his mother, who was now struggling to make money for her family. Larry King developed an early interest in radio broadcasting, and he was determined to follow his dreams. He happened to run into a staff announcer who worked for CBS. The man saw talent in young Larry King, and suggested he move to Florida, which was filled with opportunities for self-starters interested in the growing media market. King immediately packed his bags and moved to Miami, where he found odd jobs in radio that slowly developed into a career. Larry King grew more successful in the 1960s, after hosting a radio show called Miami Undercover. He grew more recognizable with each passing year, and finally, in 1978, he earned national fame on a Mutual Broadcasting System, where he interviewed guests for 90 minutes every weeknight. Today, Larry King still works actively as both a writer and as a television personality. Throughout his career, he has won two Peabody Awards, one Emmy, and 10 Cable ACE Awards. Even at age 87, Larry King remains fiercely invested in his career, and has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. While Larry King is mostly known for his work as an interviewer and talk show host, he has also earned quite a bit of infamy for his chaotic romantic life.
