Flint water crisis; 8 years later HD
Today marks 8 years since Flint switched its water source to the Flint River, ultimately leading to the water crisis. At the time, Flint was under state emergency management. Water pulled from the Flint River was not properly treated and ended up corroding pipes, allowing lead to leach into the water, exposing residents to dangerously high lead levels in their tap water. The deadline is quickly approaching for those affected to file claims in the more than 600-million-dollar settlement. Individuals will be able to file claims until May 12th. Any adult, property owner, business owner, or minor child who was in Flint between April 25, 2014 through Nov. 16, 2020 qualifies. 80% of the overall settlement will go to those who were under 18 when the crisis happened, and much of that will go to kids under 6.
