FLORIDA LEOPARD CHASES ME through Seabranch Preserve State Park! (Pt. II)

24.03.2011
Part 2: This is a review of my travels over the last part of the trails at Seabranch. It was a high of 85F and in the sun it felt way hotter...and it is desert conditions in the south Florida scrub! Most ecoregions described in this conservation assessment are ecosystems of regional extent covering at least 10,000 square-kilometers (km2). An important exception, and one of the smallest ecoregions in the continental U.S., is the Florida sand pine scrub (hereafter scrub), which occurs as a small archipelago of sandy ridges and limestone areas restricted to central and southern Florida, and a narrow stretch along the Gulf coast of Florida. The extraordinary biodiversity found within these units, a significant portion of which is restricted to these habitats, warrants their elevation to ecoregion status. The biodiversity of these islands is greatly threatened by development, but the state of Florida has made major efforts to purchase remaining scrub habitats. (wiki) Thanks for watching!
