Weigela florida is a native of East Asia that is often grown as an hedging plant. Gardeners are especially fond of the species as it attracts hummingbirds, bees and moths to the garden, and best of all it id resistant to pesky deers. There are many cultivars available, providing numerous flower colours and sizes, with plants typically growing from 60 cm to 2.5 metres in height. Plants bloom in the spring, but only for about a fortnight. They perform best in zones 4 to 8 in a sunny part of the garden that as an average to fertile soil. They are slow growers, and it may take up to 20 years to gain full height. Further plants can be propagated from stem cuttings towards the end of autumn.
