This incident occurred over the waters of Chesapeake Bay in 1984. Two aircraft were involved -- an F-18 and an A-4 Skyhawk chase plane with a cameraman filming the operation. The F-18 dropped a dummy bomb full of concrete, which hit a section of the right wing of the Skyhawk and causing an explosion and fire -- a fully armed bomb would probably have destroyed both aircraft. The A-4 Skyhawk went into a spin before the 2 crewmen - pilot and cameraman were able to eject before the plane hit the surface of Chesapeake Bay. There has been some debate over what the projectile was, as some observers have said it was a jettisoned fuel tank.
