iPhone 4s proximity sensor secret

I was using FaceTime on my iPad 3 and I placed my iPhone 4s over the screen and I noticed this purple light that flashes through the proximity sensor. To my knowledge, you can only see this from another camera of low megapixels such as the VGA camera on the front side of the iPad or iPhone
