PARO is a therapeutic robotic seal. Sample footage is from 4 CT long-term care facilities, Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Greenwich Woods Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center who are managed by TransCon Family of Homes. Paro is used on their specialized dementia neighborhoods. Real pets can not be always used in long-term care facilities, due to fear, infection or other restrictions, he (or she!) can be a complementary therapeutic companion. Obviously, Paro is not meant to replace caregivers or real pet therapy, it is simply a therapeutic tool.
