Parthenon Razor by QShave + Weishi HD

With their successful Kickstarter campaign comoing to an end some months ago, QShave + Weishi have begun fulfilling their orders of their project, the Parthenon Razor. This is an affordable adjustable safety razor with a twist to open head design. Leveraging Weishi’s experience with razor manufacturing, QShave formed a partnership in order to meet their design specifications and turn them into manufacturing realities. The razor is sold through QShave’s web site (https://www.qshave.com/) and retails for US$ 49. Considering the price point and multitude of moving parts, the Parthenon is built well. Certainly not a marvel of engineering, but it’s evident that its built to last. The overall tolerance feels on par with the price point, a far cry from a premium razor, but not overly cheap either. The adjustment mechanism is tight but feels like a weak point. I was unable to adjust the razor unless the doors were open. The black coating on this razor is already displaying signs of wearing off, similar to the problem with the original Parker Variant. The shave itself is less than what I’ve come to expect from a razor in the US$35-$50 price range. Weight 100g (3 ½ oz.) and balance are very good. The safety bar is rather acute, which makes discerning the blade feel from the safety bar feel difficult. I was unfortunate to experience similar clogging issues that Don Youngner of Wet the Face experienced (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChy872UFfXR3Q9H9Vn5ipJg). The setting that felt most right for me was 3 (out of 9). This razor is more aggressive than any adjustable I remember. The ability to go cruise control with this razor has remained non-existent after 10 shaves. Despite the budget price tag, I still cannot recommend this razor. It’s not an abomination, but it feels like a beta offering. For close to this price, if you are seeking an adjustable, the Parker Variant would still be leaps and bounds better in my experience.
