It looks like Dwayne Johnson is attempting to take the title of hardest working man in show-business. Last week it was reported that the stars of this summer’s Central Intelligence, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, were in early talks to join the cast of Sony’s planned Jumanji reboot and today The Rock took to Instagram to announce that at least half of that is officially true. In the post Johnson says getting to produce, create and deliver original properties like HBO’s Ballers and Central Intelligence is one of the best parts of his job, but it’s an honor for him to be given the chance to take beloved franchises like Baywatch and the Rampage video game and reimagine them for a whole new generation. Johnson is of course currently shooting Baywatch, an R-rated action comedy based on the popular television series that will arrive in theaters next year and has plans to bring Rampage to the big screen in the coming years, but before that he’ll produce and star in a new Jumanji movie for Sony. Regarding the new film, Johnson went on to say he and his team will be working on “edging up” an already good script and will soon meet with producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan with production scheduled to begin this fall. He promised to deliver something cool and special and not screw the whole thing up. Described as a new adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 book, Jumanji is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 28th, 2017. This will of course be the second adaptation of the story with the first released in 1995 starring the late Robin Williams as a man that had been trapped for decades inside a board game. The character Williams played in the original film didn’t appear in the book, so it’s likely Johnson will play a brand new character with a whole new story to tell. As for Kevin Hart, it’s unclear if he will reunite with Johnson for Jumanji, but it has been noted that his upcoming schedule may prove difficult for that to happen.
