Flamingos or flamingoes are a type of wading bird in the family Phoenicopteridae, the only family in the order Phoenicopteriformes. Flamingos are common in Africa, the Caucasus (Azerbaijan), South-East and Central Asia, as well as in South and Central America. Colonies of pink, or ordinary, flamingos also exist in the south of Spain, France and Sardinia. Flamingos live in large colonies along the shores of small ponds or lagoons. Colonies of flamingos often number hundreds of thousands of birds. Food of flamingos consists of small crustaceans, insect larvae, worms, mollusks and algae.
