The awards come at the back of fast growing internet usage among Ugandans. 2012 Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) statistics indicate that Internet usage is now at above 5 million users, a figure that is expected to continue blossoming years to come as internet gets more available, reliable, and affordable. Of the over 5 million internet users in Uganda, atleast 1 million people are on Social Media. HMA, a production initiated and presented by HiPipo.com will give music stakeholders an opportunity to recognize and reward artists that have had an exceptional musical performance online especially on the HiPipo.com Weekly Musical Charts that run through the year 2012, other social media channels such as YouTube, Facebook and on digital media platforms including Radio and TV. The Awards event slated for 9th February, 2013 is planned to broadcast live online and on TV. The event will be preceded with multimedia productions that will include interviews with artists, fans, entertainment presenters, music promoters and other music industry stakeholders.
