Freehand Router Carving Signs - Oak tree trunk HD

09.10.2017
A very cool project I helped out on for a local agricultural college. Freehand router Sign carved onto an oak trunk using the paper transfer method and the handheld quarter and half inch routers. Pictures here on fb https://www.facebook.com/pg/thepoultrypeople/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1286342201494797 Imgur https://imgur.com/a/2sLjB Andy had allready cut down and prepared the trunk, its been down a year or so but still wet wood so time will tell how it ages, splits and weathers. I gave the cut face a sanding down with 40 grit to get it fairly smooth. Id allready printed out the design using the Posteriza method and it was then a case of drawing a few lines and using pva glue to stick it in place. Video on that process here https://youtu.be/hjPr-VDbkyo After an hour on a warm day the paper was dry enough for routing over. The quarter inch makita with the 30 degree cnc bits is perfect for the carefull following of the design. Hard to believe that a miniscule 3mm cnc router bit was used on such a large project. On the lettering it was then swapped out for a 3mm single flute to chase out the excess timber. Then onto the bigger half inch router with a 10mm double flute straight bit for the design swirl parts as they didnt require such precision for removing excess wood. Once the design was cut out it was a case of burning inside the letters and diagram, unfortunately all we had was a micro pen torch which took a good while to do. Unfortunately due to the scale of the project and time constraints mixed in with running out of batteries and space on phones i couldnt capture the part where Andy made the axe or eventually transported it into place and I had to go back to get the final footage once it had all been put in place. What a great job hes done on that axe, made out of oak and using the bandsaw and the morticer that theyve got there. A great project and I also got to share some skills over at the local college and meet some new people. Fantastic place, its a country park and full sawmill college, i urge anyone visiting West Wales to call in and have a look around. https://www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/en/Residents/Leisure-parks-and-events/Parks-and-green-spaces/Parc-Glynllifon.aspx https://www.facebook.com/parcglynllifon Thank you very much for watching, and if youre one of the few who read all the way then a few words. Youve probably noticed that my content has been way down over the last few weeks/months. Even this video should have been done some weeks back. Ive been dealing with a sad family situation thats finally come to ahead and theres also been some legal crap ive had to deal with alongside the problems with youtubes advertising and monetisation system. Ill probably make a vlog type video this week so i can get some thoughts out and maybe some help. Thank you for your continued support and for all your kind words, it can make a lot of difference.
