New Haven Police Struggle To Arrest Wal-Mart Shoplifter (May 28, 2020)

New Haven, Connecticut - This body cam footage released by the New Haven Police Department show the arrest of Richard E. Smith Jr. who during a shoplifting investigation, is suspected of attempting to walk out of Walmart (315 Foxon Blvd) without paying for a shopping cart of merchandise. According to officials, the arresting officer’s body cam footage shows the officer attempting to detain Smith, but he resisted. Smith was ultimately charged with Assault on a police officer, Interfering with a police officer, Larceny fifth degree, Possession of a controlled substance (three counts), Possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
