Applied Graphene Materials: Driving transition to the Graphene Age HD

02.09.2022
Applied Graphene Materials (AGM) is the world leader in a key graphene technology. The company, listed in the UK and US (LON: AGM / OTCQX: APGMF), is well-positioned to take advantage of the rapidly transforming global graphene market, which is estimated to grow from c $100m in 2020 to exceed $1bn by 2032. Hailed as a wonder material after its ‘discovery’ in 2004, after two decades of hype around graphene and its commercialisation , expectations have languished in what Gartner calls “the trough of disillusionment”. The depth and length of that trough has been driven by a technological challenge: the difficulty of incorporating graphene into materials, so that its remarkable properties, including, high anti-corrosive qualities, low permeability, and strength, as well as thermal and electrical conductivity, are transferred to the host material. AGM solved that problem. To date, the company’s strategy has been to focus on the global protective coatings market, estimated to be worth $13.8bn in 2021. With further significant growth potential in this sector, and a host of new potential applications, AGM and its proprietary technology is well-positioned to take advantage of new opportunities emerging. AGM’s dispersions have, through its customer base, been used on protective industrial coatings projects for the UK’s Royal Mail, NASA, Network Rail, The Environment Agency, Lidl, Makro, Next and Wickes. In the UK consumer market they have widespread distribution in products sold via Amazon, Halfords and through direct customer websites. With 170 new sales opportunities in the pipeline, incorporating graphene into composite materials for commercial transport and the aerospace industry are key targets. Other potentially significant applications may be found in the construction, renewables and transport infrastructure sectors. In late 2021, AGM launched its own ‘Genable’ -branded primers, and in 2022 will scale up its production of GNP dispersions from 10 - 20 tonnes annually, to around 100 tonnes per year. The company has direct sales teams in the UK and the United States and a global network of distributors. Having recently signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Indian partner, Imkemex, AGM’s commercial reach now extends directly into South Asia’s liquid resins, coatings, composites and polymers sectors.
