This lecture “A Black man Started Kung-Fu” is a Black Buddhist History by Anthony “Amp” Elmore. Elmore is Founder and President of the “Proud Black Buddhist World Association. “ Elmore is not just founder of the “Proud Black Buddhist World Association” Elmore is a 5 time World Karate/Kickboxing Champion who was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee became America’s 1st celebrity Karate/Kickboxing champion. Elmore a five time World Karate/Kickboxing champion became the 1st Kickboxer in American history to gain sponsorship from a major American corporation. Elmore holds the distinction of becoming not only 1st Karate/Kickboxer to gain sponsorship from a major American corporation Elmore in 1982 became the Black celebrity to be honored with a “Corporate Sponsorship by the Adolph Coors Company. Elmore traveled specifically traveled throughout the Black Community in America as a “Coors Celebrity.” Knows as a “Coors Celebrity” Elmore appeared for years as a “Coors” national spokes person and role model for Black youth in America. Known as the Muhammad Ali of Kickboxing Elmore brought class, style and excitement to Kickboxing. Elmore travel worldwide and he introduced Kickboxing in Kenya in 1994. In 1986 Elmore a promoter and producer developed Kickboxing show that aired nationally on the BET or the “Black Entertainment Television Network. In 1988 Elmore premiered his Independent Produced film “The Contemporary Gladiator.” In 1990 the movie premiered nationally in video as “Iron Thunder.” In the above video Elmore regrets the fact that while fighting as a World Karate/Kickboxing champion he was unable to use his celebrity status to inform youth that “Kung-Fu was stated by a Black man from Southern India by the name of “Bodhidharma .” Elmore who began practicing Zen Buddhism in 1970 started practicing Nichiren Buddhism in 1974. Elmore a history buff came to realize that his Japanese teachers and Asians have extricated all Black culture, history, and language from the Buddhist Teachings.
