Bromine and potassium iodide The reaction between bromine water and a 0.1M aqueous solution of potassium iodide. The reaction takes place in the boiling tube in the centre of the screen. Boiling tubes containing samples of the two reactants for comparison are either side of the reacting mixture. The reacting mixture turns orange/brown from colourless as iodine is produced during the reaction. bromine + potassium iodide gives iodine + potassium bromide Bromine displaces iodide ions from solution.
