Chlorine and potassium iodide HD
IGCSE Chemistry - Halogen/halide displacement reactions Chlorine and potassium iodide The reaction between chlorine water and a 0.1M aqueous solution of potassium iodide. The reaction takes place in the boiling tube in the centre of the screen. Boiling tubes containing samples of the two reactants for comparison are either side of the reacting mixture. The reacting mixture turns brown/orange from colourless as iodine is produced during the reaction. chlorine + potassium iodide gives iodine + potassium chloride Chorine displaces iodide ions from solution.
