How to make Potassium Periodate HD

NOTE: A couple of times after I made potassium iodate I accidentally referred to it as potassium chlorate. I forgot to include the equation for the periodate formation. It is Cl2 + KIO3 + 2KOH = KIO4 + H2O + 2KCl I show you how to make potassium periodate starting with just potassium iodide, potassium hydroxide, calcium hypochlorite (or you can use bleach), and hydrochloric acid. You can use this synthesis with some simple substitution of chemicals to generate potassium (or sodium, with lower yield and lower purity) chlorate, perchlorate, bromate, or iodate as well.
