Elementary Productions: Gummy- Bear Experiment
In this video, the oxidising properties of molten Potassium Chlorate is demonstrated, as it oxidises a Gummy- Bear, consisting primarily of Sucrose. Sucrose is oxidised into Carbon, Carbon Dioxide and water. This reaction is very exothermic, releasing energy in the form of light and heat. The energy released is also equal to the calorific content of the Gummy- Bear. The experiment serves as a good demonstration of the oxidising properties of Potassium Chlorate and the energy content of candy.
