5 pounds of Gummy Bears meet their end when they are dumped into a beaker containing molten potassium chlorate! This extremely energetic reaction produces an inferno of purple flame! This occurs because the sugar in gummy bears is oxidized by the potassium chlorate (which we would call an oxidizer). This oxidation release an immense amount of energy and should be no surprise if you consider that this is what fuels the body!
