When Tommy Duncan was fired by Bob Wills he formed his own group, the Western All Stars. They were quickly signed by Capitol Records in 1949. He was with them for only 18 months, and only had one hit. It reached #8 on the Billboard Country chart. Next he was signed to Intro Records. He recorded the Mississippi River Blues for them in 1951. The band was the Nebraska Cornhuskers without Ole Rasmussen. They were great. He had recorded this song twice before with the Wills Band as the Mississippi Delta Blues. Both of these songs were written by Jimmy Rodgers.
