How is lofi becoming popular? Lofi hip hop is a subgenre of hip hop music distinguished for its low fidelity sound, lo-fi beats and samples, and lack of complex models or layered production. Lofi hip hop is often associated with cloud rap, a lo-fi subgenre associated with space rap. The word ‘lofi’ is short for ‘low fidelity.’ Many experts have connected this style of beat production to the sounds of Southern rap. Because the beat is produced at a low sampling rate, it is not very detailed and is not conceptually advanced. The beat reproduces a popular sound similar to the sound of UK funky, sending samples from together, using complicated beats and syncopation in beat patterns and scratching. This production method did not lend itself to complex sampling techniques that were used all across House music. Unlike those who made use of the drum samples available on the internet, low-fidelity producers generally used body samples to create beats instead of a drum loop of the entire sample itself. Body samples have multiple advantages compared to making the drum loop.
