2021 Range Rover Velar P400e PHEV First Drive and The Tech Inside HD
This is the 2021 Range Rover Velar (P400e) Plug-in hybrid SUV in Hakuba Silver, it’s one of the best looking SUVs out there, and it’s now electrified, more desirable, sustainable, and packed with some amazing tech to make it even more intelligent than ever. The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder P400e plug-in hybrid produces a combined 404PS and 640Nm of torque from its 300PS petrol engine and 105kW electric motor, with an impressive 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds). A 17.1Wh lithium-ion battery, located under the boot floor, can be charged to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes using a fast DC charge point, or 1 hour 40 minutes using a standard 7kW wall box. With zero tailpipe emissions in electric mode, an impressive real-world all-electric range of 33 miles depending on how you drive, the fuel economy of up to 130.2mpg, and CO2 emissions from just 49g/km. The inside of the Velar oozes premium quality from the way the displays are laid out, the stitching on the seats and the materials used, and ride height. You get a dual display setup with sharp, crisp quality and I love the font and even the icons used, it carries the same minimalist design language and this is running the latest PIVI Pro infotainment system that’s designed for ease of use and enhanced safety. The second screen just by the new snazzy gear shifter has two rotary dials that look like it’s floating on top of the screen, a bit like that of the mach e, this is the screen you’ll use to control essential things like the climate control and vehicle driving mode like eco, hybrid, EV, offroading modes and so on and it’s also touch screen with only the volume and the temperature dials being buttons with digital displays. The instrument cluster is fully digital too, and you can change what you see how it displays also, however, changing the view is not a once touch thing, you have to press a few times before you get what you want, unlike that of Audi’s where it’s just a button away from changing the view. Back to the infotainment system, you get Meridian Audio inside which sounds amazing, no surprises there as I feel Landrover has nailed this one already, it’s the same when I drove the Jaguar F-Type, it sounded amazing. With this new system, you get access to OTA updates, it has a data connection embedded so you can access the latest maps, apps, and software modules and you can schedule updates. You can stream music from Spotify which is also integrated and even tune-in radio. If you prefer to connect your smartphone, the Bluetooth connectivity will allow you to connect two devices at once and you have access to Apple car Play and Android Auto too. Navigating the menu is very easy with just swiping and tapping, and the home screen is nicely laid out; you can also rearrange it to suit your preference. You can select the little racing helmet icon to access performance setups like engine, steering, suspension, and gear shift characteristics and if you’re on a race track, you
