Mastic,NY: 25 People Treated for CO Poisoning After Charcoal BBQ Used Indoors During Party 03-18-18 HD

Suffolk County Police Seventh Precinct officers responded to a report of people unconscious at a home, located at 192 Cumberland Street in Mastic, at approximately 9:05 p.m. tonight. Upon arrival, it was discovered there were people cooking at a family party with a charcoal barbecue in the basement of the home. There were 25 victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. All of the victims evacuated themselves from the home. Eleven people were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Three additional victims transported themselves to local hospitals. The remainder of the victims were evaluated and treated by a doctor at the scene. Brookhaven Fire Marshal and building inspectors were on scene and issued code violations. Members of the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Rescue responded along with several other ambulance companies. There were animals in the home that were believed to be OK.
