It’s called Android TV box and in this case we are reviewing the Google Certified 2020’s Mecool top device called the KM1. The unboxing is pleasant – and thumbs up to Mecool for providing a customized box with plenty of info on top. Hardware is also decent – and therefore – performance wise the box impresses with responsive scrolling, and smooth gaming. The geeky part – the really good AMlogic S905 X3, which is not too far behind the Nvidia Shield TV in terms of performance; 2 or 4 GB RAM, 16, 32 or 64GB storage, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth, and most good protocols supported, along with a number of useful connectivity ports. Micro SD card slot, LAN port, Two full sized USB ports – for external mouse or HDD, and even AV out – because you can connect it to even good old CRT TVs with analog cable. Running Android Pie – you can enjoy most of the Play Store content for TV. Let’s mention that you may count on Amlogic Video Engine 10 with support Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10 +, HDR10, HLG and PRIME HDR among others. Which is quite impressive for such a budget friendly device! Downloading apps and running them is quite easy! If you sideload something from and external source and it doesn’t appear on the main apps screen, you can use the Sideload launcher. Going through the certifications – we notice the support for Widevine L1, which means that th KM1 covers the requirements for letting you stream content from paid platforms in their maximum quality. This is exactly the case with Amazon Prime Video – and there is even a dedicated button for it. You can also watch Youtube – of course any resolution up to 4K will be available, which is great! And I also loved the google play button. As for gaming – it’s not NVIDIA Shield TV, but rather close! Smooth gaming, and I didn’t notice significant throttling even after stressing it for a while. Do not expect miracles, but it’s certainly far better than Mi Box S. I’ve tried a few rather resource-hungry games – and that’s been good! All sorts of multimedia have been playing well. So that’s the KM1. A good step forward, a mighty competitor of Mi Box S, and … not too far behind the Nvidia shield TV series. Only serious drawback I can point to is the lack of the Netflix android TV edition, but in return – certified by Google OS, Chromecast embedded, very capable processor, a lot of RAM with a powerful quad-core processor, Amazon Prime Video out of the box and the ability to play most games form Play Store. So there you go – a great 2020 value pack, which performance-wise leads this class of TVboxes and seems to be a great choice at this price point
