You can gather lions for a long time. Don’t sell Lion Meat. It’s better to cook King of Jungle Hamburg with them. Market cooking can yield 150 million silver / hour up to ~400 million silver / hour. You can also make Imperials or Valencia Meals. Make sure to use your horse while gathering lions. Gathering on foot is too slow. You need a minimum level of gear, a decent horse, consumables and a tool to gather lions efficiently. You can use Oasis gear from Ellie the Oasis Vendor during the event. After the Oasis event, use Narchillan gear or TRI Boss gear. Use a tier 6 horse or higher, with 90 horse DP. Lower horse DP may work out, I have not tested it. A tier 8 horse or dream horse will be even better. The horse moves you around faster and pulls the lions nicely. The recommended consumables are Carrots, Carrot Juice, HP Potions, Seafood Cron Meal or Fig Pie, blue Life Spirit Stone or a better alchemy stone, as well as Pet Feed. If you cannot reach more than 650 Butchering Mastery, use a Magic Butchering Knife and Silver Embroidered Gatherer’s Clothes (or wear your combat armor). Otherwise, use a Mastery Butchering Knife (Loggia, Dostter, Manos) and Mastery Clothes (Loggia, Carta, Manos). The Lions are located in Valencia near Ancando Harbor. You either have to travel through the desert or through Gahaz to get there. Both routes are dangerous. I like to auto-ride to Shakatu and the rest of the way manually for safety.
