An influential American magazine has named London the global capital of the 21st century. The new issue of New York magazine has paid homage to London, claiming the financial, cultural and culinary benefits now tower over those of its home city. I have been to London now about 50 times and this great city never ceases to amaze me.London is a fantastic place to visit and has something for everyone.To explore London properly you will need about a month because it is so big.It covers an area of approx 700 sq miles (1700 sq kms) Its hard to pin down exactly what makes London so magical; it may be that constant jostle for balance that is unlike any in the world. In Saxon times, it was known as Lundenwic and during the kingdom of Alfred the Great, its name was changed to Lundenburg. Contrary to what many people believe, Big Ben in London is not the name of the clock or the tower, but a 13-ton bell inside the clock. The tower is known as St. Stephens Tower. The Great Fire of London in 1666 created widespread devastation, causing major reconstruction work all across the city, which took over 10 years to rebuild.
