Sengoku Basara HD - Yukimura Sanada | Conquest Mode HD

Following Masamune, it’s only fitting I play Yukimura next. I find it interesting how the game letterboxes the in-game cutscenes but doesn’t need to do so for the anime cutscenes in the game. Not sure what the deal is with that, but it doesn’t bother me in either case. Also for someone trying to learn Japanese it’s fun to listen to these cutscenes with no subtitles and just see how much I can pick up on. Anyways, Yukimura plays similarly to Masamune as a sort of standard character with solid attacks and good range. His specials give him access to a solid multi-hitting attack that’s good for closing distance and breaking shields and another that’s good for launching enemies for air combos. I unlock another while playing where he can charge up an attack and then swing at the enemies with a fire coated slashes for some significant damage. One thing to note about Special Attacks in this game as opposed to Devil Kings is that you start out with two of them. In DK, you started with none and had to unlock them as you played. Also in DK, one of the Special Attacks was repurposed into the “priming” attack so everyone actually lost a move that actually dealt damage for one that simply inflicted a status ailment and minuscule damage. I much much much prefer having more options to attack the enemy than being forced to use that Prime mechanic. Also in DK, the priming attack was used by pressing Triangle. Special Attacks were done by holding R1+Square/Triangle. In SB, you switch between Special Attacks with L1 and press Triangle to use both of them. Technically this means you have more attacks in DK, but since one of them is useless as a priming attack, it hardly matters. It is interesting to note that the SB series proper did actually retain the R1+Triangle/Square button inputs and dedicated other attacks to the Triangle button instead in later games, so at least it offered something good for the series.
