Episode 17: Investing in WeWork and Fun Carts — Two Big Bets The Dumb Money team heads out to suburban grocery chain Albertsons to test drive a real-life Fun Cart, a family friendly grocery cart manufactured by Aisleworx, a local start-up in need of growth capital. While at the grocery store Chris gets distracted while passing a shelving display of sparkling waters. One of Chris’ favorite stocks to trade is National Beverage Corp ($FIZZ), the manufacturer of trendy flavored sparkling water brand La Croix. The team notices that the La Croix brand has been losing shelf space in recent months to competitors including Bubly, Perrier, and Waterloo. Could this be the making of a new short trading opportunity? Since the team is driving through Jordan’s old neighborhood, he suggests stopping at one of his favorite eateries, the c. Over lunch conversation, they unanimously decide to make the investment in Aisleworx. They also discuss and choose to invest in pre-IPO shares of The We Company, best known for its millennial-friendly WeWork shared office spaces and more recently its WeLive shared living spaces. Upon closing on both the Aisleworx and We Company investments – Jordan, Dave, and Chris head to the original Dumb Money office at WeWork in Uptown Dallas where they reminisce about their early days meeting and strategizing on investment opportunities from the sofa of the shared office company for which they are now official owners.
