Segregation Costs African Americans Billions Every Year In Chicago HD
A new study released by the Metropolitan Planning Council and the Urban Institute takes a look into the racial and economic costs of segregation. The study found that if the levels of segregation were reduced to the median levels of the nation’s 100 largest metro areas the region could generate an additional $4.4 billion in income, lower the homicide rate by 30 percent and there would be more than 83,000 four-year college graduates. Alden Loury, Director of Research and Evaluation for the Metropolitan Planning Council joined Roland Martin to discuss the economic impact segregation is having on African Americans in the Windy City.
