If you can do it pain free, just substitute the wednesday non-running workout for the running workout, otherwise take the week off. How do I keep entertained during these long distance runs? Wow, thats an easy one. I cherish my endurance cardio time be it running or biking. Its a time completely free of distractions where I can listen to the birds, daydream, and my let my subconscious work on sticky technical problems. When I see people running with ear buds in I just shake my head. We are inundated with media all day long, this is a time to escape! What I have found is that strangely enough, cardiovascular endurance is NOT transferrable. What I mean by this is if you take a marathon runner and put them on a bike, even though they are in top cardiovascular shape, they wont keep up with even the most pathetic of cyclists. Similarly, take a top cyclist and ask them to run and they will die after a few miles. Its two parts, you need the cardiovascular capacity but your muscles also need to be trained for "low weight high reps" :)
