Mixing Kalkwasser Powder for ATO Container HD

18.11.2015
Kalkwasser aka "Kalk" is German for "Lime water." Kalkwasser, 2-Part Supplements & Calcium Reactors are all balanced means used to add back calcium supplements into marine aquariums. Marine organisms pull calcium from the water to form their skeletons / shells causing the level of calcium in the water to decrease. The jugs sit overnight so the sediment can settle. Its important not to dose the sediment. Please stay tune for Part II of video. items used during video: used total of 5 tsp Kalkwasser aka (Calcium Hydroxide) Ca(OH)2 added 15ml Vinegar 5% acidity as booster Three one-gallon jugs --- Jug #1 - 1tsp Kalk only --- Jug #2 - 2tsp + 5ml vinegar --- Jug #3 - 2tsp + 10ml vinegar RO/DI water tsp = teaspoon for measuring latex gloves sharpe dust mask from hardware store reusable additional thoughts & notes: anywhere from 1ml to 18ml Vinegar per gallon is the acceptable range that I have read online (even seen up to 25ml) but decide for yourself; as each tank is different, also less is more plus patience, patience, patience. *slowly increase after observing your tank as vinegar is a carbon source & may cause a bacteria bloom in the aquarium. I originally started with 5ml per gallon and have worked my way up to 15ml. My ATO container holds a total of 7 gallons. The Kalk solution made during this video will only account for 3 gallons of my total 7 gallons ATO container approximately 40%. My goal is to have the clear part of the Kalk-solution minus the sediment at the bottom of the jug account for 5 gallons approximately 70% of the total 7 gallon ATO container. The 7 gallon ATO container will last approximately 10 calendar days. Kalkwasser Dosing Article: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5QJJLprX7aQclZsN2pyLU1zTU0/view
