Video of a robot dressed as a chef making knife-cut noodles in South China Agricultural University’s cafeteria has gone viral online on April 25, 2017. The robot wore a mask and a white uniform with two sharp knives as its arms when making knife-cut noodles. According to the staff, this robot makes 340 cuts every minute and can guarantee the consistency of the noodles’ thickness. Knife-cut noodles, also known as Dao Xiao Mian, is a specialty of central China’s Shanxi, and a traditional main dish for people in north China. The authentic technique of making knife-cut noodles is to hold a large block of dough with a tilted angle downwards in one hand, and to use a sharp knife with the other hand to cut or peel the noodles directly into a large pot of boiling water.
