Everyone knows sushi, tenpura, and teriyaki, but today, let’s talk about some of the less-known Japanese food, and some expressions that you can use with them. Nattou (fermented soy beans) - なっとう It’s stringy, isn’t it? - ネバネバしてですね (nebaneba shite desu ne) Whoa, what a smell! - わ〜、すごいにおい (waa, sugoi nioi) Torotoro (grated yam) - とろとろ This one is extremely slimy - とろり/とろとろ しています (torori/tortoro shite imasu) Shiokara (salted fish intestines) - しおから Salty - しょっぱい/しおからい (shoppai/shiokarai) Spicy - からい (karai) Bitter - にがい (nigai) Fugu (pufferfish) - ふぐ Firm and crunchy - コリコリしていますね (korikori shite imasu ne) Is this really safe? - これ、だいじょうぶですか?(kore, daijoubu desu ka?)
