First Voice Power of Speech Event 2014 @The National Press Club - Bree McCowatt HD
One of 12 deaf children from Australia and New Zealand invited to take part in the Power of Speech event, Bree proved that hearing loss is no barrier to education, sport - even public speaking! She took to the National Press Club stage in March 2014 to present a short speech on a topic of her choice, and in the process, challenge common perceptions about hearing loss. Bree received her first cochlear implant in July 2005, and together with her parents, she regularly made the 300 kilometre round trip to Auckland to attend therapy sessions. In October 2006, Bree received a second cochlear implant, and is now thriving in the classroom, even taking out several class awards! Power of Speech is presented by First Voice, an alliance of six world-leading childhood Early Intervention centres across Australia and New Zealand, providing life-changing Auditory-Verbal Therapy programs for children with hearing loss. Thanks to these Early Intervention programs, and the miracle of technology that is the Cochlear Implant, we are able to ensure that Australian children with all degrees of hearing loss have the opportunity to reach their full potential in a hearing world.
