Gex 3 Deep Cover Gecko 2:22:00 100% PS Speedrun [WR]

13.09.2017
Achieved on September 9th, 2017 NTSC Version PS1 disk played on a PS2 using Fast Disk Speed Timing starts when I first control Gex and timing ends when the "Congratulations!" screen appears after the blackout of the final boss. Final time is around 2:22:00.93. RTA timing is around 2:22:08.79. Really happy with this run given how brutal this category is. Finally a clean run where nothing major went wrong. First of all, I got the frame perfect TV cancel in Holy Moses that saves a minute and I got another frame perfect TV cancel in Mythology Network that I must risk the whole run EVERY time. Then I didn’t choke the run away on the dreaded rainbow TV cancel and played through the rest of the game well while getting the frame perfect TV cancel in Superhero Show that saves 20 seconds. The only complaint about this run is that it really should have been a sub 2:22 run because I lost around 20 seconds on the final split unfortunately. I guess nerves got to me. But other then that, pretty great run! This run was also played on a used 75k slim Playstation System that I just got with fast disk speed on. This run would have subbed 2:20 if it was working properly but the system acts like it is playing on standard disk speed because of how bad the console is. So with a better console with FDS working, sub 2:20 will be my final goal. Until then, I am very happy with this run and I will not improve it on my current system. My old PS system that I run games on with FDS working is a fat 30k that produces a lot of lag in this game. Glad I made the switch to this system. Saves around 1-2 minutes. :) Sorry about the TV fuzz that is running from bottom to the top of the screen (you can especially notice this in levels such as Gangster TV) and sounds that make this low cracking noise throughout the run but they are effects from playing on this 75k system that I now have. I also did a new rainbow TV cancel method in this run that involves pausing. Since the Rezling goes faster in this console then my old one, pausing actually makes it a lot easier. First I hold the run button for Gex to run against the green button. What I want the rezling to do when he is behind Gex is to go in the direction of the TV. When I know the rezling is about to be perpendicular with the TV, this is where I pause for the last time, let go of the run button (for the Rezling to attack Gex), resume play, and hit the jump button. There are still a lot more things with this skip that I still need to make a tutorial for. This is actually a really precise RNG based skip that you need to spend hours just to get a feel for it. This TV cancel and the other one in this level is what makes Mythology Network for me the worst level BY FAR in this category.
