Day 136: July 09 In the Kharkiv region, the Russians conducted several attacks. The first attack was again launched in the direction of the village of Dementiivka, but the Ukrainian forces spotted them in advance, gave a fight on the approaches to that village and pushed them back. The Russians also tried to launch an attack from Vesele on Petrivka, but were again caught on the approaches and repelled. The Ukrainians have developed a new tactic for tackling these attacks efficiently. As I told you before, when the Russians are trying to break through a defense line, they shell it and conduct several attacks in order to find weak spots. If unsuccessful, they repeat try to repeat this process for several days or even weeks to see whether an opportunity for a breakthrough emerges. Because most of these attacks are short and light, although not all, the Ukrainians could not inflict severe damage to their enemy. That is why they adjusted and started to leave only a small number of troops to defend a potential target, while most of the forces allocated to that specific region assume different positions around the target. This way when the Russians attacked the target, they started to find themselves either in a small pocket or at a crossfire. The Ukrainians started to use this tactic in the east, where the most intense fights have been taking place recently. In the east, the activity somewhat decreased, but a few fights still took place. In the Sloviansk direction, the fights reportedly took place only in the Krasnopillia direction. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that these attacks were repelled and that the Russians made no territorial gains. Here the Ukrainians are not in a positions to utilize their new tactic because the Russians already cleared everything around and the front line goes right through the village. The Russians are controlling the forestall area around the village and do not leave the room to the Ukrainians for maneuver. In the Siversk direction, no active action took place. The Russians continued to shell the villages in this area, however, this time focusing more on the ones that are right on the front line. While they were shelling, they continued to move their forces around and prepare for the next wave of attacks.
