VEX In The Zone Kentucky Starter Bot HD
This video was developed to help new VEX Robotics Teams to have a good starting point for the 2017-2018 game In The Zone. While this design wont win a bunch of tournaments it will allow you to compete and score points more effectively than a standard claw bot. There may be some minor tweaks needed after you get it assembled. If you end up building one tweet me an image @UKy_Klein Designed for teams only using the using the Classroom Competition Super Kit - https://www.vexrobotics.com/c-c-super.html?startcustomization=1 The best way to break up the work is to start team members at different locations. Here is what I see as the best break out. - Wheel bases - 7s to 42s (could have 2 team members) - Mast - 46s to 1m10s - 6 bar lifts - 1m12s to 2m 6s (could have 2 team members) - Claw - 3m 38s to 3m 30s If you have additional equipment here are some good upgrades 1. Switch out the linear slide rails for a 35 hole piece of C channel 2. Use 35 hole pieces to switch the lift to a 4 bar to simplify it and reduce the chance of breakage. 3. Add limit switches to the top and bottom position of the arm to stop the motor to increase their life. 4. Make the base of the mass one piece to make it less flexible. 5. Develop the chassis with a 35 hole chassis to make it more ridged and allow the spreading out the wheels to make it more stable. 6. Place 2 shaft collars between the gears on the lift to keep them in alignment. 7. Switch the gears out for high strength gears**** 8. Increase the distance between the top and bottom plate of the gripper to allow for more rigid arms 9. Use a chain and sprocket setup to increase the output to the wheels for speed 10. Increase the length of the cross brace to reach both outside bumpers. 11. Add a cross brace to the bottom make it more rigid 12. Add diagonal cross braces between the mast and the wheel base. 13. Add nyloc nuts in additional locations. A good strategy is just replacing a nyloc for any location that a nut that falls off or is hard to reach. 14. Add more braces between the right and left 6 bar lifts 15. Switch the plastic lock plates in the gripper for metal ones. 16. Make the gripper arms taller and add rubber bands between the finger tip and the wrist to help add tolerance into the gripper 17. Switch the the steel parts in the lift for aluminum parts 18. Switch the base out for a Holonomic or H-Drive Upgrade Videos 1. Holonomic Drive Assembly and Programming - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Ju_VqYLAU 2.
