This pharmaceutical drug is used to treat congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and many other medical conditions. Research and clinical studies prove it to be a very effective drug class for many, as it works by causing the blood vessels to become enlarged or dilated, and thus causing a reduction in the blood pressure. This lowering of the blood pressure makes it easier for the heart to pump blood and it can improve the function of a failing heart. In the United States, 10 ACE inhibitors are in use: Ramipril (Altace) Enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned) Quinapril (Accupril) Captopril (Capoten) Benazepril (Lotensin) Lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril) Fosinopril (Monopril) Moexipril (Univasc) Trandolapril (Mavik) Perindopril (Aceon) NOTE...that the brand names of all of these above end with the suffix “pril”.
