Axes protected from rust by candle wax.

I stored these two axes in my across rail pickup truck toolbox for roughly 9 months. In that time frame, it has rained heavily and snowed. I find traces of weather inside of the toolbox regularly. Then with it being black, the sun heats it up and turns moisture to steam. perfect space to make rusty steel. I rubbed the axe head metal with candle wax after sharpening it the last time. The oiled leather sheaths had more signs of wear than the metal pieces.
